Primark has opened its 500th store worldwide at the La Cartiera shopping centre in Naples.
The retailer's first store opened in Dublin in 1969, trading as Penneys; today Primark operates in 19 countries across Europe, the US and the Middle East. According to the company, its 500 stores together represent around 1.86 million square metres of retail space. Primark employs more than 80,000 colleagues from 190 nationalities.
Naples marks further store-led growth
At the opening, CEO Eoin Tonge highlighted the role Primark's stores play in the towns and economies they are part of, pointing to further growth potential for the store network. The new location at La Cartiera represents an investment of around €8 million.
Three more openings within a week
Primark has announced three additional store openings for the same week: in Portugal, Romania, and at Mall of America in the US. Earlier in 2026, the retailer also opened its flagship store at Herald Square in Manhattan.
